Organization: Local/Regional Government
|
One of the most important aspects of academic continuity is the quality of relationships between academic institutions and their local and regional emergency management agencies. The Academic Continuity and Emergency Management workshop at UMUC in June 2007 included a participant from the International Association of Emergency Managers to represent the perspectives of local and regional emergency management professionals. Among the key findings of this workshop were that "key stakeholders in higher education typically lack personal relationships with state and local authorities and public and private sector institutions which could offer emergency support and ‘back-up’ capacities and operations" and that "there is little if any process for communicating th[e] role" of higher education institutions in local, state and regional emergency preparedness plans. Thus there is a need for resources which help strengthen the relationship between academic institutions and local/regional government, particularly with emergency management agencies. |
