Academic continuity is a vital part of this larger picture, so the purpose of this part of the website is to identify and strengthen the relationships between academic continuity and other related focus areas:

- Operational continuity is a broader term which focuses on functions not typically considered as business or academic services, such as research, intercollegiate athletics, etc.
- Campus safety and security is focused on making sure that students are safe and secure while on campus.
- Institutional resilience is a umbrella term which focuses on encompassing all of these functions, i.e., the capacity of an educational institution to maintain its overall viability in crisis situations.
- Emergency management focuses on preparing for and responding to disasters and other crisis situations in society as a whole, of which the educational community and infrastructure is a vital part.
